  • Gritty Gang Culture

    Rated - 4.0 stars
By Catherine Lucas from Canterbury in Kent, England , 19 Jul 2006

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Excellently gritty, dark and depressing yet with bursts of unexpected comedy, the story of the Green Street Elite is one excelled by an outstanding and refreshing performance by Elijah Wood, whose naivety and gradual regression into thuggery are not only authentic in their delivery, but will also serve to shake of any worries of typecasting after more cuddly hobbit based roles. The supporting cast is also superb, though the new head of the firm could do with some more cockney-london-accent lessons... this film gets four stars for being witty, gritty, and downright enjoyable to watch.

  • Not bad....film about West Hams firm

    Rated - 3.0 stars

Elijah Wood is actually not bad in this....as the Harvard student who is expelled for selling drugs (they were his room mates) who gradually learns to stand up for himself more when he gets initiated into West Hams firm while staying in London (where his sister now lives). Loved the ending with him getting revenge on his former Harvard room mate....Some people have complained about the violence in the film, but I think it's realistic. Nice touch by the director (a female world kick box champion!) in showing that all the guys in the West Ham firm have good jobs during the week (the typical assumption is that hoooligans are unemployed). They lead split lives.....normal working people during the week and getting into fights on the weekend as a release. This tells you something about the wolf pack culture of guys....

  • Worst film I have seen in a quite a while

    Rated - 0.5 stars

I was surprised. This was a massive let down. Wasn't expecting anything amazing but thought it would at least be a decent watch as I'd heard people mention it. Acting was awful. Casting poor. Writing contrived and unrealistic. I imagine some Americans might give this a bit more than my half a star as they mightn't realise how unrealistic some of the football elements are, but even ignoring the football this is one lazily made film. Massively disappointed.

disneys answer to football factory. dont bother, american mello-dramatic non sence, pared with a unrealistic plot, and a main character who sounds just perfect for crocodile dundee in the east end.
