Greenfingers goes where Lucky Break feared to tread — into the prison system to deliver a heart-warming tale of redemption. Clive Owen stars as the no-hope convict who's transferred to an open prison. An incident with a packet of African violet seeds means he's commanded by the governor to create a garden. His patch attracts the attention of a gardening guru (Helen Mirren) and soon Owen's team are doing out-reach work and entering the Hampton Court Palace show. Based on a true story, this is desperately sweet, particularly with regard the burgeoning romance between Owen and Natasha Little as Mirren's daughter. The end result is hardly earth-shattering, but at least it's more entertaining than Ground Force.

A gentle film with the fab Helen Mirren in it. Reminds me a bit of Calendar Girls. Clive Owen is about as characterful as a rubber band, but I guess he is nice to look at!
Just what the UK film industry should be doing - quality actors doing quality work for an intelligent audience. Would have been 5 stars but for a few weak points in the script. Enjoy !
What this lacks in originality, suspense or even belly laughs it makes up for in quiet charm and colour. Totally undemanding and unsurprising, trying for the homegrown (sorry) triumph Full Monty feelgood factor and not quite reaching those heady heights, Greenfingers is nevertheless sweet and lo and perfect for watching with the kids or with Granny on a rainy afternoon. There is much fun in seeing the leading lights of UK acting Owen, Mirren, Clarke and the woefully underused Natasha Little and the upncoming Danny Dyer take this all in their stride, turning in perfect characterisations without breaking a sweat. If youre a fan of Clive Owen and Helen Mirren specifically its a particularly rare treat to see them in something lightweight where you actually get to see their rather beautiful smiles and having a bit of fun. Definitely NOT a jewel in the crown of UK cinema but a little ray of innocent sunshine even so.

The storyline, (based around true events), centres on a group of prisoners in an open prison who take up gardening as a hobby and then get seriously into it, so much so they set their sights on entering Hampton Court Flower Show.
The story is pretty corny and predictable. Makes you wonder why Helen Mirren and Clive Owen wanted to be a part of it!
More like 'a made for TV' film.
I really enjoyed this film, great combination of laughter & tears, would definately recommend this film
A bit slow to begin with, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definetly recommend it, though I think us girls will enjoy it more. Well acted, though not a particularly well known cast.
Very good movie. Lots of famous names acting really well. Never heard about the movie so I guess it never made it big time, but its a great plot, good music, and the nice feel-good factor at the end. Well worth watching.
Very entertaining - recommended
Worth the while, especially Clive Owen!
I thought that a film about gardening would be real manure but this is not the case. This is a great movie with believable actors and a believable plot, not often the case with a film based on a true story!, and I would highly recommend it.
