Gregory's Girl

Lanky young Gregory and his schoolmates are just starting to notice the opposite sex. Lacking confidence and unsure of exactly what to do, Gregory sets out to win the heart of Dorothy, a classmate who unfortunately is much better at soccer than he is. Scottish director Bill Forsyth (LOCAL HERO) imbues this small, heartfelt, and singularly quirky tale of adolescent longing with an astoundingly generous dose of sensitivity and true-to-life heart.

An unusual high school love story

The thing which strikes me after not having seen GG for quite a few years and watching it again is that its extremely unusual. The naturalistic use of dialogue and introduction of character without the use of typical Hollywood devices makes you feel more like you are in the film, as one of the characters, and not being taken for stupid. It makes you feel more involved.

Forgive the terrible hair and the lack of 'beautiful people': this is a sweet, scottish love story, which is touching and funny and great.
