Epic swords-and-sandals adventure 300 leads the nominations for the 34th Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films' Saturn Awards. The director behind The Scorpion King and The Mask is now turning his attentions to a remake of the horror-comedy Piranha. Chuck Russell, who also directed The Blob, Eraser and A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, will bring the 1978 film up to date. It's never easy reviewing so-called 'family films'. No critic can speak on behalf of adults and children of all ages. Apparently it's not easy to make them, either, because the ratio of hits to misses is hardly encouraging. Throw in the constraints of making a Christmas movie and the odds of something worthwhile emerging are slim.
