Half a decent film!

Seeing Grindhouse as it was intended is an interesting experiment, albeit an expensive one for Miramax as the film was a huge flop in America. Its true that Tarantino captures the tone of Grindhouse movies however, isn't spending a load of money in the 1st place going against the grain of true Grindhouse? Planet Terror is decent movie. Completely absurd and full of gore and over the top moments. The fake trailers of movies are the real highlight of the collectors edition. These are hilarious and Machete even got made into a feature film. Although I have heard that making it into a feature was to its detriment. The real downside to Grindhouse is Death Proof. This movie is so ponderous and boring. The dialogue is terrible and the female characters are so unlikeable that you actually want them to be killed off. Overall its a decent package but Death Proof is a real let down. Especially as I am a fan of Kurt Russell.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Totally brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By Franco72 (45 reviews) , 26 Feb 2013I recently watched Hobo with a Shotgun and Machete and found out about this movie from those films. I got hold of it and am I glad I did. Total non stop carnage from start to finish. Both movies are very typical of the directors and fans of them will not be dissapointed. Add in to the mix the fake trailers and ad's, the crackle of film that takes some of us older viewers back to the days of old movie theaters. The films were great with a lot of linking characters and I would probably rank Death Proof slightly over Planet Terror but you need to watch them both. I can't praise the directors, script writers and cast (who were stellar) enough - more like this- Was this review helpful to you?

Full House...nearly.
By BMidland (141 reviews) from Walsall , 18 Feb 2012This is a cracking double, even if Death Proof does lose it's way towards the end, as individual titles Planet Terror wins out over Tarantino's exploitation tribute, what makes this package however, is the brilliant inclusion of an audience track on the blu-ray allowing you to watch the film, Planet Terror only, more on that in a moment, along with the audience at one of the screenings and what a treat it is, you eventually forget that you are a lone spectator and feel as if you are part of the audience, HOWEVER, should you rent this based on that fact, be wary, the audience track for Death proof is on the second disc, so make sure that is on your list also.
Unfortunately, I neglected to include the bonus disc, however, if it is similar to the Planet Terror audience track it will make a cracking double feature.
Deserves reappraisal.- Was this review helpful to you?
