What A Cow!
By FrankIV (506 reviews) from Cirencester, England , 17 Oct 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a prime example of the sort of cross between thriller and melodrama which 1940s Hollywood was so good at. It has Anne Baxter, in some ways foreshadowing her role in 'All About Eve' five years later, as a Grade A bitch
who establishes herself within a happy family group and insidiously introduces suspicion and dissent. The ending is rather odd and, I suspect, a concession to the prevailing morality, but Baxter and Ralph Bellamy are good, as is a supporting cast in characterisations which go slightly beyond the usual stereotypes for happy families, and the black and white photography is lovely. By a customer from London , 18 Nov 2009This may, or may be not, an interesting film from the director of Hangover Square and more, but this release is appalling and, sometimes inaudible. It clearly comes from an nth generation video tape and, at the beginning, there is an repeated noise that sound like a steam train, off screen. It doesn't get much better, which is a pity, as there is probably a film inside. What the film has visually is impossible to see in this version, which is bleached with no detail., when it was shot by Lee Garmes (who filmed for Sternberg). There is an NTSC version of this film, but it looks as though it will not be better.- Was this review helpful to you?
