Fun family movie
By LillyP (29 reviews) , 09 Aug 2012[Highly rated reviewer]

This is a fun, family movie with no pretension to seriousness on any level. Its silly, pokes fun at itself and all the better for it. Jack Black is, well, Jack Black. It looked great fun to make and its great fun to watch for all the family.- Was this review helpful to you?

(192)Great star cast
By JodiBow (2 reviews) , 19 Apr 2013Jack Black as usual plays himself, but to his full potential as we have come to expect. Whilst not an epic movie, my children watched this 8 times before returning it. We also have borrowed a few lines as often happens when a film captures their attention like this one does, I can often be heard using one of Billy Connolly's lines to my advantage! I must say I chuckled throughout the film, even after several viewings.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mildly amusing in places but pretty lame overall.
By ZappaChap (3 reviews) from Telford , 09 Apr 2013This film has very little to recommend it. Jack Black's performance is a bit like a self-parody - lots of mugging and mildly diverting crudity. He plays the usual slacker who against the odds rises to a heroism of sorts. The humour lacks any kind of wit or subtlety. The plot is completely predictable. At times the sentimentality is so syrupy and saccharine, the movie should carry a health warning for diabetics.- Was this review helpful to you?

Doesn't travel well
By RJNeb2 (922 reviews) from London , 31 Jan 2013A very loose adaptation of the Swift novel, this updates the story and then like the lead character at one point urinates all over its key ingredients. This is all in service of making it a full-on Jack Black vehicle. If you love the actor's louche style, then you'll probably find this hilarious. For the rest of us, he grates enormously, smart-assing his way through most of the film. Quite what attracted the calibre of this supporting cast to this lame exercise is a mystery. Admittedly it does have moments of cleverness but they are generally not Black related.- Was this review helpful to you?

We both denied adding this one to our list
By a customer , 29 Nov 2012Better than forgetting Sarah Marshall, but only just. May be OK for kids, but don't go expecting Be Kind Rewind vintage Jack Black.- Was this review helpful to you?
