Directionless and disappointing

25th October 2008
I'm not sure what I was expecting here. Perhaps something more searching, more focussed on some of the issues or something trying to give an insight into the realities of life in Iraq as a member of an occupying force.
What I got was a fairly incoherent look at the predictable behaviour of a number of young men and a few women completely out of their depth, surrounded by a culture that they didn't understand (and didn't want to) and trying to impose their own normality upon it. If there was a message here, it was lost on me. If there was anything new or revelatory, I suppose I wasn't bright enough to spot it. Maybe it needs subtitles for the hard of understanding. I found it a little dull.
