ONE OF THE GREATS
By JIM WOOD from CHESHIRE /ENGLAND , 06 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I highly rate this musical . It was a joy to watch. The opening scene with dancing is a little long but then be prepared for a treat. All the favourites dear old Stubby Kaye as Nicely Nicely made us laugh.Even Brando was credible with his singing . As far as I am concerned anything with Sinatra is pleasurable and this is no exception. We were very impressed by the transfer to DVD. The colour is excellent without the saturation that tends to plague some musicals. There are lots of laughs in it with mannerisms etc of the supporting cast . Please watch it more than once. It's a great film for a wet afternoon with a big packet of popcorn and your arm round the girl you love.- Was this review helpful to you?

(18)THE MOTHER OF THEM ALL
By Burnhamite (379 reviews) from BURNHAM , 12 May 2013A collection of Runyon characters brought to life by a plethora of stars led by Brando, Sinatra, Jean Simmons which will last forever in the annals of musicals. THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Dolls and the Guys
By Hazeylady (4 reviews) , 28 Oct 2011Not having seen this film for many years I really enjoyed it. The story and charecters all came back to me and the music wasnt as dated as I thought it might be.Highly reccomend this film for a lighthearted nostalgic time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Guys and Dolls
By a customer from Newport Pagnell , 12 Aug 2010After not having seen this film for many years I thoroughly enjoyed it. Interestingly cast with Marlon Brando in a singing role but I think he carries the songs off nicely. Sometimes it's nice to have an honest 'normal' voice in a lead singing role and makes you see the actor in a different light. A good story, with some interesting and somewhat unsavoury but likeable characters and some great songs. Thoroughly enjoyable.- Was this review helpful to you?

Song and Dance and Talk
By Cato (703 reviews) from Lydbury North , 03 Jul 2010A long film but I must admit the time flew by, apart from some of the singing, which apparently Frank Sinatra insisted on including. Marlon Brando was a revelation, and completely scotched the rumour that he was just a mumbler. And not a bad singing voice either. Great acting from him and Jean Simmons, especially in Havana. Excellent dancing and I particularly liked the Runyonesque/Shakespearian speech delivery from the gangsters.- Was this review helpful to you?
