A Missed Opportunity
By Sarah from Aberdeen, Scotland , 02 May 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
Disappointing, disjointed and disorganised. The music was interesting, but all the milling about was too distracting to provide a coherent picture of these marvellous people.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)Bendy roads make for a more interesting journey...
By a customer , 26 Jun 2011I loved this film, full of passion, fun and emotion. The coming together of all the Roma musicians and their travels across Americal playing to sell out audiences who seemed to get as passionate about the music as the musicians themselves was fantastic. The Queen of the Gypsies was amazing, a larger than life character with a huge heart and a fantastic voice. Also I liked the fact that the film gave background on some of the individual musicians lives which I found really interesting and moving. I know that some reveiwers on here didn't like it but I loved it!- Was this review helpful to you?

great music, interesting history
By a customer from New Malden , 13 Oct 2010I rented this dvd because I had seen the Gypsy Queens and Kings live, and wanted to know more about where they came from and the history of the Roma people.
It's an interesting mix of tour documentary and concert performance, and shows musicians from different countries finding out the common links they have due to their shared heritage.
It does have an unexpected ending, so watch through to the end.
Life affirming music and culture-recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great!
By a customer from Leamington Spa , 07 Sep 2009If you like Gypsy music you will love this film. If you liked the music in The Man Who Cried (Depp film) you will certainly like it too as one of the bands on this tour also featured in that film at the encampment. Esma from Macedonia has a really outstanding voice. Also they are currently on tour in this country (as the Gypsy Queens and Kings) so see the film soon and decide whether you want to book a ticket- Was this review helpful to you?

Dissapointing
By Bullybass (52 reviews) from Exeter , 13 Jul 2009This is a documentary that follows a tour around the US of an ensemble of bands, singers and musicians who all come from gypsy backgrounds from a variety of different countries. It would be unfair to compare this with 'Buena Vista Social Club' but it is likely to appeal to a lot of the same audience. What does work well in the film are the individual stories and the inbetween show tour footage. However, the film is severely let down by the live performance footage, not because of the musicians but the dreadful camera work. The live footage looked like it had been shot and edited by MTV types, meaning that no shot lasts more than a couple of seconds creating almost a strobe imaging. I find this style very annoying when trying to watch coverage of live bands on television and in this film it was very distracting from the music. The music itself is, for the most part, excellent but I think you'd be better off checking out audio recordings and give this film a miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

superb!!
By a customer from london , 28 Jun 2009A wonderfully exhilarating, and moving, musical journey. I had no prior knowledge at all of the movie and actually thought that it had been sent by mistake!!. My husband and I were transfixed to the screen the whole time and were carried along on a wave of the most emotionally charged music. A wonderful, wonderful movie and I defy anyone to watch this without feeling moved by the performances of all involved.- Was this review helpful to you?
