[Highly rated reviewer]I seen this released in America in December 2009
And As an Akita Lover I just Adored this film. I would however say it is quite tear jerking and can be quite boring for those who are not familiar with the true story of Hatchiko or are Akita Lovers. I have been to Shubiya in tokyo to see the statue outside the actual entrance to the train station Hatchiko waited and even seen the preserved Hatchiko in the Japan natural History Museum.
Amazing Story telling, tear jerking stuff, brilliantly told and Im led to believe Richard Gere actually gave some of his own money so the movie could be made as he is an Akita Lover himself.
Dog Lovers will love this movie, Akita Lovers will love this movie, People who love tear jerking movies will love this movie, But however those who like to thin k of themselves as emotion less hard men will pretend to hate ie

This will make your children cry but the dog is greatBy Chetpicker (10 reviews) from Tadworth , 22 Jun 2012

I watched this with my 3 children, (13,11 and 6) as I thought it might be funny similar to 'Marley and me'. Its nothing like Marley and me at all and at the end they were all in tears!!
Richard Gere finds a dog at a train station which he later keeps as his own. The dog always walks to the train station with RG as he leaves for work and is their waiting when he returns home at night.
RG dies in work and for the rest of its natural life, the dog waits for him. Through in the widow of RG who moves away with her new husband and abandons the dog who sleeps in a railway yard.
If you want a tear jerker and a bit of poor acting from RG thrown in for good measure, get this film. The dog is great and as this is a true story, the townspeople have a statue of the dog outside the trian station still waiting for its master.
Iv rated this as poor as the acting is very bad, but the dog is beautiful.
feel like a cry, then watch thisBy teddybeardann (1 review) , 25 May 2012Really lovely film, beautiful dog and such a sad story ,a definate tear jerker, loved it even though it was a bit slow at times. For Richard gere fans not a brill role but love him anyway !
Weepy Moments!By a customer , 18 May 2012I am so glad it was not just me who wept like a baby whilst watching this film... amazing true story, only set in the USA rather than Japan like the original, fantastic film, but ensure a supply of tissues are at hand!
