Hachi-A Dogs Story
By Safehands1 (6 reviews) from Glasgow , 06 Mar 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
I seen this released in America in December 2009
And As an Akita Lover I just Adored this film. I would however say it is quite tear jerking and can be quite boring for those who are not familiar with the true story of Hatchiko or are Akita Lovers. I have been to Shubiya in tokyo to see the statue outside the actual entrance to the train station Hatchiko waited and even seen the preserved Hatchiko in the Japan natural History Museum.
Amazing Story telling, tear jerking stuff, brilliantly told and Im led to believe Richard Gere actually gave some of his own money so the movie could be made as he is an Akita Lover himself.
Dog Lovers will love this movie, Akita Lovers will love this movie, People who love tear jerking movies will love this movie, But however those who like to thin k of themselves as emotion less hard men will pretend to hate ie- Was this review helpful to you?

(123)How did they manage to stretch this to a film?
By gainsb1 (36 reviews) , 10 May 2013A nice story about true events but could have been done in half an hour. How many times do you want to see a dog (and I am a dog lover) go to and from a train station. There is an irrelevant family bit that stretches it out as well. I couldn't imagine why Mr Gere would want to be involved in this until I read a review that says he likes these dogs.... oh dear! I presume this went straight to DVD as we go to the cinema every tuesday (for the last 15 years... yes, really!) and we can't recall ever seeing this one previewed. No wonder.- Was this review helpful to you?

Can you afford the Kleenex tissues?
By Bobsview (549 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 13 Mar 2013Richard Gere. Corny tear jerker about abandoned cute adorable puppy dog adopted by Richard Gere (professor) but who dies young at 51. Dog returns everyday for 10 years to meet him off the train. Based on true story. More of a kids movie really. Watchable but very sloppy and sentimental.- Was this review helpful to you?

Heart breakingly brilliant
By squirrelandgman (2 reviews) , 01 Mar 2013What a wonderful film,I have an akita myself and she is the grand age of fourteen. After watching the film I must have cried for a good four hours and still get a lump in my throat now when I think of it. Akitas are incredible dogs and I can vouch for their loyalty and unconditional love. The film was exicuted so very well,I would certainly recomend you watch. But be prepard to shed a tear or two. enjoy.- Was this review helpful to you?
