Shankman names Hairspray pal Oscars music director

Hairspray collaborators Adam Shankman and Marc Shaiman are to team up again at the Oscars. First-time Academy Awards co-producer Shankman has named composer/arranger Shaiman as the music director for the 82nd Oscars in March (10). Shankman rocks out with Rock of Ages: The Movie

Actor Tobey Maguire and filmmaker Adam Shankman are teaming up to adapt Broadway musical Rock Of Ages for the big screen. Shankman, who transformed the stage production of Hairspray into a Hollywood movie musical in 2007, will direct and choreograph the film, while Spider-Man star Maguire will co-produce the project. Hairspray stars Zac Efron and Brittany Snow are set to reteam for a remake of cheesy surf movie Gidget, according to new industry reports. Miley Cyrus is on board as waverider Gidget in the project, with Efron slated to play her love interest, according to MovieHole.net. Sandra Dee originated the role of Gidget in Paul Wendkoss 1959 original and Sally Field took over the role of Gidget in a short-lived TV series. Read more
