Pow!
By Tuula from England, Land of Lemmy , 12 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
As the name suggests, this was on purpose made as a parody of the kung-fu genre. The opening sequence is quite funny, without revealing any details... All the kung-fu film cliches get an airing, or a kicking, the despised poor orphan becomes a hero, after training under an elusive master with long grey beard and sadistic teaching methods, then tests his mettle with the pretty female fighter and so on.
As usual the fights are superbly choreographed and executed, though there are no insane stunts off skyscrapers as in Jackie's later films. It established the Jackie Chan style of kung-fu comedy, and if that is what you like you will like this one! If slapstick and silly stunts are not your favoured entertainment, then maybe get something else.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)Better, But Still Needs Work...
By drunkenmaster (479 reviews) from Merthyr Tydfil, , 24 Jun 2005This is a bit of a Kung Fu send up with Jackie pretending to be someone he's not, and having to lear how to fight as the film progresses. This was a break from Lo Wei directing, and Jackie just looks more comfortable on the screen.
Directed by Chan Jeung-Wa, who although not a great martial arts director, he did have the sense to try Jackie at choreographing and directing his own action scenes. We get some of Jackie's comedy coming into play, but not enough to make this a classic. OK, but still a bit to go before we get some classic Chan.- Was this review helpful to you?

Film great, DVD awful
By SicCoyote from Staffs , 09 May 2005I really liked this early example of Jackie Chan's style. Unfortunately this DVD is awful. Picture: The picture has been cropped at the top, and bottom, and sides zooming in on a small section of the middle of the 2.35:1 film.
The old VHS release was better than this, if looks like a pan & scan 4:3 version of the film which has then had the top and bottom choppped off to make it fit in 16:9. he extras are the same as on all the other discs in this series except it has a Japanese trailer for the film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Better, But Still Needs Work...
By Ian Davies from South Wales , 08 May 2005This is a bit of a Kung Fu send up with Jackie pretending to be someone he's not, and having to learn to fight. This was a break from Lo Wei directing, this was in fact directed by Chan Jeung-Wa, who although not a great martial arts director, he did have the sense to let Jackie direct the action. We start to get some of Jackie's comedy coming in to play, but not enough to make this a classic. Ok, but still a bit to go before we get some 'Classic' Chan.- Was this review helpful to you?

Poor movie from a great stuntman
By a customer from Devon , 14 Mar 2005Don't bother watching this movie, the comedy is as poor as the story line and the moves. This is a shame as we all expect good things from Jackie Chan.- Was this review helpful to you?
