Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, HALLOWEEN takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked .. Read more

This terror trailblazer from John Carpenter established the slasher trend for calendar date horror. But few of the clones it inspired had the same directorial flair, dazzling skill or irreverent wit as this baby-sitter in jeopardy jolter. Jamie Lee Curtis earned her scream queen coronet in Carpenter's deceptively clever trick-or-treat chiller. And Donald Pleasence carved a whole new career for himself through several variable sequels as the fearful psychiatrist chasing the indestructible and surprisingly shuddersome killer, Michael Myers.
Put this on one evening with the lads, exprecting to see a film that lived up to all the hype and its title as a classic. Let me put it in simple terms: it's rubbish. So I recommend you rent something else.
Halloween is as good a shocker now as it was when I first saw it. Carpenters fantastically eerie score brings out the haunting moments! Some films age badly, but Halloween has gone from strength to strength!
Unlike it co-partner in horror (Friday the 13th) it has aged great, the shocks are still as shocking as they always where, the plot and characters are believable and well thought out.
If you like horror, you will love Halloween. Don't like horror? Give it a try you might be surprised!
Probably the most scariest stalk and slash film ever to be made. It's techniques on scare tactics are still being replicated today, but with half the effect.
After killing his sister 15 years ago at the age of 6, Michael Myers escapes from his mental inststitution and returns home to create more havoc.
Everybit of this film is perfect, if you can ignore the cliches so observable today in horror films. The acting is fabulous because of terrific characterizations created by Debra Hill and John Carpenter. Cinematography is chilling especially in dark shots where you can see the white mask in the background.
This film is so good because it takes it's time to properly get going. By doing this the film allows you get to know the characters, feel for them and sense real dread for them.
25 years on, Halloween is still as scary as it ever was and will always be. This is a trait of a classic horror film.
This is classic slash horror you can not find another slash flick to match this original.
Even though it has aged it still can be watched over and over.Even the theme still remains haunting, if you have not watched this for a while rent it.
this is the original and the best. scared the sh**e out of me when i was younger. the music is creepy and the shots are perfect, building up the suspense. the fact that you dont see a lot of death and gore only adds to the creepiness.

Well wat can i say, this is possibly the best horror film I have ever seen. Where as in your usal horror slasher film there's no story line but chopping teenagers up, this has a very well thought of and creative storyline.
This was John Capenters first horror film which but him on the map, to other greats like the vampire, and the fog.
This film is about a psycopathic killer who escapes from years of solitary confinment at smiths grove sanitaryium. He escapes and goes home to find his long lost sister Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) but little does Michael know Dr.Loomis (Donald Pleasance) is on his trial. I must say my favorite bit must be when michael springs up and plunges the kitchen knife into Lauries arm throwing her over the banister and down the stairs!
Well worth the watch and the 2nd disc has AMAZING bonus features!
An all out fantastic film that sent me to belive in the boggy-man as Michael Myers
Some gory moments but all in all a superb film
that sent horror films in to the next demention
WATCH THIS FILM!!!!!!
no.1 horror film get it if you DARE!!!!!
Hallowen is without a doubt one of the best horror movies ever made. The main thing that makes this a classic horror is the music. A absolute gem of a horror movie
John Carpenters Classic horror film halloween is superb. Still as fresh today as it was in 1978. Only thing that seems to have dated in the film is the fashion. Granted it's a slow burner the suspense really gets you going. It still sends shivers down my spine.
Darkly shot and brooding camera work and probably the best ever horror soundtrack. Well worth renting again and again.
Full of suspense, blood and horror. I remember watching this when I was younger - strangely on Halloween - and it was the one that made jump and flinch the most that afterwards everything else just seemed tame and nothing shocked me. If you want to watch a great horror movie or make the missus jump on your lap ;o) this will be worth the watch everytime.
