Made in 2000 this Hamlet is set in New York and given the quality of the story available to the director, its completely wasted here. Appauling acting by Ethan Hawke who i guess ticks the box for an actor employed just for his looks-even they are questionable. The film rolls along slowly and at the end i felt like i had just watched a donna karen ad .
Its shallow, you care nothing for any of the characters and im suprised that given the choice i would watch mel gibson do hamlet any day.
One dimentional, pretentious, self indulgent, very dated already- or was that the directors intention?
Who knows and who cares....avoid and watch the Brannah version instead or if you want a decent pretentious late 90s early 00s piece of cinema with all the art and half decent story and set in New York, watch High Art with Ally Sheedy,
