    Brilliant

Sadly they dont make them like this any more. Hammer may have been produced on a cheap budget but the acting by Peter Cushing and the likes keeps you glued to the screen. Anyone who watched Horror films in the 70s on Friday nights will love this set of 4 Hammer disks.

Definitely one for nostalgia - no cushions required!!

I'm sentimental about the Hammer Horrors and enjoyed revisiting.

They generally have quite a strong story line, so they don't overdo the gore or special effects and they're not needed.

Quite hammy and not really what I call 'serious horror', but definitely has the creepy factor and I like the fact that you don't always get a happy ending. Classic.

    dated but thought-provoking

I watched two of the hammer horror DVDS until I decided to start watching a few more films, but I will go back to them in a few months! Anyway this is the TV series that was on, and it is a little hit and miss but mainly hit. Some of the episodes are really excellent and have you gripped to your seat while others are a bit..hm. It's worth it to find the good ones though. I especially liked the one about the ex-con and the pet shop owner and also the doppelganger ( I think that's on disc 2) which was pretty bloody scary actually. Don;t pick hitchikers up wearing yellow raincoats if they have an 'evil' fingernail!

    Just as I remembered it.

I was petrified of Hammmer House of Horror programmes when I was a kid so rented it to see if they still scared me and the certainly do!!

You can keep your high-tech special effects, blood and gore Hollywood blockbuster horror movies, the old British ones are still the most terrifying.

These Hammer House programmes aren't too complex, are down-to-earth and mostly set in very normal, suburban, everyday surroundings but are intelligently written, original and very scary.

Definately recommended. I can't wait to receive the next discs.

    Frightening!

The first film “The Mask of Satan” is quite a poor show actually. It centres around a psychotic man who works in a hospital morgue of all places. He is very paranoid and is obsessed with the number ‘nine’.

The second film is called “The Witching Time” and centres around an old country cottage where a couple reside. Needless to say, the woman is having an affair and a ‘witch’ from the 1700s appears to the man in ghostly appearance to tell him so. Patricia Quinn and Prunella Gee make an excellent performance here. The story centres around the witch and how the couple can get rid of her, as she makes a nuisance of herself.

The final film on this disc "From the Grave" is a benchmark film and concentrates on a woman who in a fit of fear, shoots him with a shotgun. The woman is neurotic and has shadows from her past. She sees visions of him everywhere and consults a palmist to discreetly try and resolve her fixation with the man she has killed. Simon McCorkindale plays the husband. Great set of thighs from Simon too. Definitely worth watching as this story is a standard set in practially every drama/thriller ever written – that of deceit and corruption.

This Hammer House series is definitely worthy of including in any DVD collection.

    Superb

Absolutely superb. The second episode featuring Peter Cushing is quality, and the other two aren't far behind.

    Great show

Just as good as I remembered it, with some great stories. Diana Dors in the Werewolve one is particularly wonderful.

    Good nostalgic fun

Nice to catch up on these old programes, you get the chance to see some actors nearing the end of their careers (Peter Cushing, Diana Dors) and those near the start (Brian Cox, Leigh Lawson, you get some reasonably interesting stories going for the creep rather than the gore factor (altough some of the music seems to be from the old Dracula movies) and of course a bit of bare female flesh now and then.

    Well the wife loves them.

A bit dated and cheezy for me but my wife loves them so of course I lost and had to put it on my list. Perhaps I should put the subscription on her card.

    Classic TV

It's great to see these Hammer House Of Horror TV episodes again. A real trip down memory lane. They are timeless until you notice most of the cars the actors drive are no longer made today.

Still good quality horror without the gore.
