Most helpful review
One to watch

The only down side to this dvd is the poor picture quality.
Tony Hancock is timeless. This dvd has some of his lesser known episodes but they are full of excellent lines.
It is quite evident that Tony Hancock influenced later comedians and perhaps this is why his work is so timeless.
I would make all youngsters watch this.- Was this review helpful to you?

(17)One for the fans
By DeathOfNarrativeCinema (156 reviews) from Wallingford , 12 Jan 2011... of whom I count myself one. If like me you have heard every surviving radio recording so many times you can recite the scripts; and if you've already seen the later surviving TV Hancocks, where he scales those heights again - well in that case, rent this. If you are only dipping your toes in, though, start with the radio episodes so you get why Hancock is great.
As for this, there are some good moments, including in the Christmas Special, but some of it is a bit ropey as Hancock (and the rest of the cast and crew!) get to grips with the new medium.- Was this review helpful to you?

enjoyable but not quite a classic
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 28 Apr 2008Some very early episodes that survived and give a glimpse of humour in the 60's, being filmed live means that there are all sorts of mistakes made and having to be covered up with the occasional quick adlib by Hancock. The extra 43 minute program is very good in a post-modern way as it is a xmas special about a failing xmas special. Those of us of a certain age will also note early tv appearances by Dick Emery and Hugh Loyd before the became famous in their own write.- Was this review helpful to you?

TV No, Radio Yes
By a customer from London , 12 Mar 2007Interesting to see TH on screen, and some good material here, but not a patch on the original Radio show. Don't get your hopes up too high, there's not really much to get you splitting your sides.- Was this review helpful to you?
