What can I say, this is not a blockbuster. A very mixed up film not sure of what it is, comedy, love story, moral who knows, it didn't seem to me the director or script writers knew. The ending is typical american rushed and stupid.
I would just drop the first 3 letters of the title and that says it all.
Was pleasantly suprised by this film, thought all i was gonna get was the action side of Will Smith i.e I Robot but ended up with a whole performance which incorporated his whole spectrum. Im talking Men in Black all the way to Pursuit of Happyness. Some incredible laugh out loud moments and one-liners. But Smith also made you feel for his character. Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron also played good supporting roles. Overall this film was well worth the cinema ticket.
I just came back from watching it, all in all it was an average film with a satisfying twist. The first half of the movie was better than the latter half in my opinion

The trailers for this made it look like a comedy that was self aware, willing to challenge the genre and very much in the present with its 'YouTube' references etc.
The trailer wasnt the best reflection on the film but thats not to say the film was bad. The film was a mixture of comedy, drama, action and rommance. However the biggest mixture was in the comedy tone, there were moments strictly for kids then humour that was very adult in its nature. They tried playing to both sets of audience and this just didnt sit right with me. When its was gritty with bank heists and car chases there'd be a childish joke. When its was a kinda family film moment you'd have some 'F' words and a head up someones ass. Maybe its just me i just couldn't quite settle!
The first half definately has more to enjoy, the second half changes from the film you expected from the trailer to a whole new genre that to be honest was average and forgettable. Once again all the good jokes are in the trailer :(
The superhero element was an interesting twist but soon changed to your run-of-the-mill superhero yarn.
The big super smackdown in the street towards the end of the film was tedious, the CGI was not bad but not the best out there. The whole fight just reeked of 'is there any need'? However the end face off is great and really emotional!
Big Will is awesome as usual and the emotional parts of the film are its strength, its just a shame that the tone didn't allow you to stay in these moments for long. The jokes were good but if you've seen the trailer more than once they loose their impact.
With all my complaints i did enjoy the film (exept for the Super smackdown) but as soon as i left the cinema not alot of it stayed with me, and the conversation turned to 'The Dark Knight'! I CANT WAIT!!!!!

Right on the back of superhero movies Hulk and Ironman comes the fun spoof superhero spin off but does it fly with the others well Ok even your biggest names can only work with the material they are given, and it seems likely Will only read the first two thirds of the script before taking this role. The best one liners, action bits and entertainment are definately packed in early, and even then only moderately entertaining. The last bit deteriorates into some sort of morality tale completely out of nowhere and out of synch with the whole idea of a fun superhero flick. Worth a watch, but dont go out of your way.
Here is proof that I am not a biased, stone-hearted naysayer, for I watched Hancock as part of my 'Give It A Go' night, two films that I did not want to see at the cinema, but I thought deserved a chance on home rental. So this was put on after Mamma Mia (still rubbish).
Of course there was a time when the name Will Smith was a promise rather than a threat in a movie. Given his last attempt, I Am Legend, in which at least Sam The Dog was worth a watch, this could have been disastrous, pun intended. Well, far from it.
Credit must mostly be given to writer Vince Gilligan, who wrote some of the funniest X-Files episodes and whose humour and twisty script give Hancock exactly what it needs. Will Smith deserves praise for being back on form and actually making a terrific effort rather than just looking like 'Hey, I'm Will Smith and I Can do what I want'. Charlize Theron, as always, delivers flawlessly to boot.
The first half of the film is a nice spin on the superhero movie genre, exploring it along similar lines to The Incredibles. Hancock is the superstrong, immortal and bullet proof crime fighter nobody likes. He is reckless, breaks things, is drunk most of the time and is generally not very nice. A chance encounter with a charity PR manager sets him on a new course. A stint in prison (for criminal damages) and an image change later, Hancock is the hero that the city wants and needs.
What gives Hancock the edge is the second half, an unravelling of mysteries and some nice twists- which I will not spoil for you.
There is much more than a superhero movie here, one that like Iron Man has true heart and soul and a bit of depth along good effects and the required amount of action. Will Smith has redeemed himself for his recent line-up of rubbish movies, now let's hope that, like Hancock himself, he can break the cycle.
SURPRISINGLY GOOD AND SOLID ENTERTAINMENT

First things first-this is not a kids film. If you've seen the trailer you probably think that this is your usual Will Smith, well put together, well meaning, pretty inconsequential, summer big buck
movie. But it isn't,and at the same time it is. I'll try to explain. The first finished version of this film was rated 'R' in the states which would have made it an '18' or '15' in this country.Obviously Will Smith doesn't make 'R' rated films(Bad Boys excepted),because 'R' rated movies don't make squillions of dollars,it's not what the 'Will Smith' brand stands for these days.So changes were made to tone it down and get it a more appropriate certificate, and that is the film you will see.
It still contains use of the 'F' word and other assorted profanity. Some may find the casual sexism and homophobia offensive,so like I say-it aint for kids.
Anyway,Will Smith plays Hancock-a drunken misogynistic,arrogant,super-powered layabout who resides in a crime ridden downtown LA.When he can be bothered to rouse himself he uses his superpowers to fight crime, unfortunately wrecking everything in sight in the process.Basically, the general public hate him,he may be saving their lives but the collateral damage to property and cars just isn't worth it.But,in short Hancock couldn't give a toss.During one of Hancocks successful, but couldn't-care-less-about-collateral-damage
rescues he bumps into a PR man who sees the error of Hancock's superhero ways and offers to rebrand him and make him the popular hero he should've been in the first place.
This eventually involves Hancock going to jail to pay the City back for all the damage he's caused to the infrastructure. Up to this point the movie is pretty good for a Will Smith gig.
The spin on the normal superhero riff is well executed,Smith does what he normally does
but the material is better, the effects are adequate, seeing a drunken superhero flying into roadsigns is hilarious, there are less 'Will Smith' jokes, and you start wondering where is this going to go?and can they keep it up? Well, the answer is yes and no.
Because it is here that we get a twist so completely out of nowhere,so downright bonkers, that for most people the film will simply implode at this point. It certainly did for me,
but I stuck with it,and I think you should too.I'm by no means a Will Smith fan,but this tries
harder and works better than any of his other attempts at 'grown up' acting that I've ever seen. Worth a look.

If i had known then what i did now, i would definately not have gone and actually spent money on this movie.
Once again, Hollywood say 'To hell with plot!' and try to compensate by adding over-the-top computer graphics, and not very convincing ones at that. I have seen better graphics on TV Sci-fi shows, such as Star-trek: Voyager (from 1996) and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
I best talk about the plot, oh wait, there isn't one. I wish i was exadurating, but i'm really not, you WILL watch this movie thinking about plot lines that YOU would put in it, and think about how much more intellegent your ideas are rather than the actual movies.
I am stuck wether to talk about what little plot there is, it's hardly worth my time, and if were to tell you about it, i'm not sure if you'd believe me. It really is that bad.
Give the money you were saving to see Hancock to charity instead, least then you wont feel cheated out of 2 hours of your life and will have helped sick people instead of lining this movies contributors' pockets!
Even though I love the acting ability & skills of Will Smith, Charlize Theron & lesser of Jason Bateman, this film left me disappointed and I couldnt get out of the cinema fast enough when it ended. There is a story with a twist but its boring and in the main very disappointing, felt something was missing form a Lack Lustre superhero film with usually super actors.
