Since the glossy inanities of Charlie's Angels, Kate Jackson has carved herself a nice little niche by appearing in worthy true-life dramas, and this is a typically competent example. In a story with similarities to Sissy Spacek's Marie, Jackson plays a single mother who takes a job with the Georgia Labor Department, only to discover that the bureaucracy is riddled with corruption. Dean Stockwell scores as Jackson's villainous boss and John Shea (who played Lex Luthor in The New Adventures of Superman) is also good value as a fellow employee who supports her anti-corruption stance. Jan Egleson's direction is a touch pedestrian, but the committed performances carry the day.
