Christian Slater and Minnie Driver battle the elements in this slim, waterlogged but fast-paced adventure that throws the bad guys together with the forces of nature after a massive flood envelops a small town on the same night that a daring robbery takes place. Utterly preposterous in places (why can movie characters hold their breath underwater for about 20 minutes and we mere humans can't?), this nonetheless zips along merrily and offers the bonus of some impressively tongue-in-cheek performances from Morgan Freeman and Randy Quaid.
After weeks of rain, the floods are rising around the town of Huntingburg, Indiana. Slater's armoured-car courier is... read more on Time Out
"...Exciting....The digital effects are definitely some of the best of their kind..."
If you are looking for a movie that has some action and is moderately entertaining without requiring much cerebral activity, this is right up your street. For the rest of us watch Identity.
'Hard Rain' does have an excellent cast and some impressive set designs and effects. But it is so horribly written and cliché ridden it's distressing to see such a cast and budget wasted! The plot is very weak and the twists and turns are no more than a slight veering that you can spot a mile off. One of the final scenes where the state police turn up seconds after all the action pretty much sums it up. Definitely missed the boat, this one.
This is a fast moving watchable film, the plot is not entirely predictable, and the film I would say was an enjoyable experience. Don't expect anything moving life changing or significant though.
I don't get it. If this movie didn't have Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater in it, it would have looked like a very bad TV movie. The dialogue was appalling (almost as if it was actually taken word for word from a novel with no attempt to screen write it. I wouldn't know if this were true or not, just what it 'seemed' like.) There's obviously a lot of very hard work going on in this film, which is a big shame because it's all to no avail. Only reason I gave as many as two stars is because Slater and Freeman are not bad 'all' the way through.

Good pop corn stuff... Nothing earth shattering, but had some nice twists and turns in it. Some of the fight scenes are good and Freeman, Slater and Minnie Driver are all good. Randy Quiad adds something alittle extra with his sheriff character. Worth the watch on a cold night with nothing much on tv. As they say just the ticket!
CLassic film a must see!
I lost interest in the plot quite quickly. I chose the film solely because Morgan Freeman was featured.
Truely awful and such a shame as Morgan Freeman is normally very good. One bad film
good all rounder. not as predictable as some but recommended for a friday night in with a curry.
I liked this film, it had a few twists.
A bit slow in places but the end turned very well.
Without the presence of Morgan Freeman, and to a degree Christian Slater, this film would have been really hard to continue watching. I kept hoping for that pivotal moment where the film would get good, sadly that never happened. The more it went on the more prepostorous it got.
Oh well, I guess with the weather we have been having lately (flash floods, etc) there's hope for some of us.

A mix of disaster movie and thriller; the result is a disastrous thriller.
