Director Simon Wincer's second feature is a downright odd attempt to update the story of Rasputin to eighties' Australia. Trading on the piercing eyes that made him so effective in Jesus of Nazareth, Robert Powell plays a charismatic healer who convinces senator David Hemmings and his wife that he can cure their son's leukaemia. This is typical of the kind of curio that Hemmings opted for as his once-glittering career went into a steep decline, and Wincer piles on the mystery without really developing the story. Hollywood veteran Broderick Crawford who won a best actor Oscar in 1949 for All the King's Men pops up as Hemmings's spin doctor.

A really dated but great movie.....needs remake with

the use on new technology will be even better......robert powells Great as Gregory Wolf the was made in the 1960s and the technology was outstanding then.....but a remake would add back the wow factor....still worth watch.....the only problem is the dvd I was sent needs replacing or cleaning and repairing as It sticks in the best places!!!

    So 80's it hurts

The fashions, robert powell in big shoulderpads, all very silly. But the idea of updating the Rasputin story is a good one, and it kinda works in that weird arty way the eighties had of doing things. Recommended for anyone who delights in psychedelics.
