Best picture in more ways than one
By a customer from Carr-Bridge, Scotland , 09 Jan 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
I found nothing wrong with the picture quality and little wrong with the film. Mary Wesley's characters are well developed and strongly played by the cast which includes Peter Davidson and Sir John Mills. In this unusual story we follow Hebe from outcast daughter to successful woman with an interesting mix of careers. Mary Wesley's female characterizations are wonderfully fresh and resilient, whilst many of her men are weak and hopelessly inept at relationships. As a man, every time I read this novel it makes me reassess not only my relationships with women, but raises my positive outlook on life. A great film of a great book.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)good story
By a customer from Shrewsbury , 18 Jan 2009the film and the book work well, a good adaptation. But the book still fleshes out the scenes and imagination does the rest!- Was this review helpful to you?

Customer Review
By a customer from UK , 23 Jun 2008I loved Mary Wesley's book but this film is truly appalling.
The acting is absolutely dreadful; it's hammy, over acted and completely fails to capture the charm of the book.
The previous reviewer says it's out of sync after 1 hour and 15 mins. I gave up on it long before that!- Was this review helpful to you?

I recommend - very entertaining
By a customer from Sherborne, England , 25 May 2007This is a lovely, whimsical, heart-warming film, with some hilarious small touches, and great acting. Mungo and Rory, as two members of Hebes lovers' syndicate, are particularly entertaining. There are some very likeable characters. The basic story is simple but has numerous complicated, amusing asides and twists. Its a film I can watch time and again.- Was this review helpful to you?
