Half Blood (BOOK REVIEW)

As you may be aware this film isn't due out in the cinema till June 2009, and therefore not due on DVD before Nov 2009 if not March 2010.

But what can I tell you about 'Half Blood' without releasing too much of the plot?

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends return to Hogwarts for their 6th Year, and so unexpected changes have happened over the summer, Prof. Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) is no longer Potions Master but instead Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts, and a new, curious yet pompous teacher was joined the staff, Professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent). Slughorn is an old collegue of Albus Dumbledore's (Michael Gambon) and was Head of Slytherin House, at the time of Tom Riddle's [Lord Voldemort] (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) student-years

After Harry's failed attempts of Occlumency (Ability to open someone's mind by force), Dumbledore seems certain he needs to tell Harry something about Tom Riddle's Past in hope it will be useful for the future, but what secrets has Dumbledore uncovered about the most evil sorceror ever known?

Book to Film

people basing this on the book will i fear be very very dissapointed, last time out key plot points were ignored and if rumours are true the story of this film will make the written ending be quite impossible

Although im sure its probably going to be a good film, from what I've read and heard its not very faithful to the book.

Many things have been taken out, new scenes added in and they've butchered the whole storyline, however the parts that they have left in from the book look great, and are just as I imagined them to be.

I still cant wait to see this film, but it will never compare to the brilliant writing of JKRowling!

By the far the darkest and most boring Harry Potter!

I have always looked forward to seeing each new Harry Potter film and they have never disappointed till now! This new one is really long (and not in a positive way) with no sense of the usual Potter Magic. I got the feeling that whoever put this together (whether it was Rowling or the film makers who I am told changed quite alot from the original) had run out of ideas and was just fumbling along making up some uninteresting semblance of a story as they went along. I think this film paid far too much attention to teenage love interests that seemed to take over the theme of the film. While I am an adult watching the film, I watched the previous Harry Potters because of the make believe world of magic and wizardry: I'll be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about who is snogging who and their raging teenage hormones. It's minutae that does not interest because that is not one of the reasons I like seeing Harry Potter on screen and it certainly detracts from the magic and the fantasy land. I guess this is indicative that the HP franchise is coming to an end, which is just as well, however I seriously doubt this installment of Harry Potter is one I will remember in years to come.

Disappointed

I really looked forward to viewing this movie but after it had finnished I could not help but feel disappointed. The main theme in this movie is obviously lacking which is of course the book Harry gets in his potion lesson belonging to a mysteries past student who calls themselves the Half blood price, the name of the movie.

Although Harry carries the book around with him uses the book occassionly in the movie, there was not enough intrege into the book throughout the course of the movie, When the revealing of the mystery who the half blood price was it seemed no big deal.

Obviously they could not fit everything from the book into the movie however there should have definately been more to entise you into this mystery of the book.

There is an added scene in this movie that was not in the book, my feeling is they wished to add more action, this does not work. Adding the fight scene in Hogwarts Castle at the end of the movie as in the book would have made a much greater impact.

The scenes did not mesh well together in parts and in seemed rushed and cut to hell to fit into the time.

Although I was disappointed I still enoyed this movie as it contains all of your favourate characters, some with bigger roles and others smaller.

Overall, Still holds some of the Harry Potter Magic.

harry potter 6

i read the book and i didnt think it was that good

but i liked all the films so far so it should ok!

Harry Potter, don't bother...

What a let down. This should have been an exciting film, as the book is. Instead what you get is an indepth look into the development of adolescent crushes and a lot of confusion for those people who haven't read the books as to just what is going on and why. One understands that it is necessary to sometimes change book stories somewhat to accomodate the film making process, but this was just poor scripting and screen writing and very poor direction. The last 25 minutes of the film should be the exciting finale. But it's a damp squib of an ending with the exciting fight in the castle completley left out. There are whole tranches of the story missing on the understanding Voldemort and his development and psyche. And no link to the final two films on searching for the remaining horcruxes and what they might be. There was a pointless scene added in the middle at the Weasleys' house for Xmas that contributed nothing to the story. The time and money spent on that scene could have been used to make the films ending the glorious, exciting and sad ending it was in the book. Sorry guys but you well and truly messed up on this and unless the next two films stick a bit more closely to the spirit of the books, and the actual stories, I won't be going to see either of them.
