Gene Wilder, who can often be relied upon to be funny as an actor, is weighed down here by his own directorial incompetence. His attempt to emulate earlier — and better — haunted-house scare movies fails because he borrows too heavily from them. Those in mind of the classic Bob Hope vehicle The Cat and the Canary will be appalled at the lack of imagination and the victory of noise over wit in this second-rate entry in the genre. Even the support of Dom DeLuise can't save the day.

This was a hoot, I remember seeing this when I was a kid and I thought it was really good then.
Just top spoof laugh and Gene is superb as always.
Not as funny as I remember it to be from when I was a kid but some laughs all the same
