This film promotes itself as the most actual/correct account of the story everyone has already heard, and I did find it interesting to watch. I couldn't help but make comparisons with Wolfgang Petersons epic 'Troy', which was a far more entertaining film, but according to this version, appeared to miss out and/or change part of the sequence of events.
I was quite surprised how differently both Hector and Paris are potrayed compared to 'Troy', with Paris seemingly a stronger and more heroic character and Hector appearing fairly average. Achilles is given a much lesser role here and is not made out to be half the warrior he is made by Brad Pitt.
This story starts with the birth of Paris and progresses gradually on from there also giving much more information about the life of Helen and how she came to Troy.
It was also shown in the film, just how much was thought of the Gods, and this was made clear by certain, quite brutal events.
Whilst some of the acting could have been better, in all this is quite a decent film and worth watching when you have almost 3 hours to spare.
I thoroughly enjoyed this dvd, and to be honest i felt it faired allot better than the hollywood adaptation Troy. Rufus sewell delivers a incredibly underrated portrayal of Agamemnon. While although it didn't have the budget of troy, the battle scenes were still excellent, and portrayed a more real account of this story.
I didn't watch this all in one sitting (after all it was a tv adaptation, not all shown in one go), i am definitely glad i rented it.
