ALL DEL BREAKS LOOSEBy hunkydomste (48 reviews) from Liverpool , 27 Aug 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]Guillermo del Toro said in an interview not too long ago that with Pan's Labyrinth he just 'went for it', ridding himself from commercial restraints and letting his creativity run free. And creative and fantastically visionary he is. Look at the films he has helmed and there is the gems/arthouse side (Devil's Backbone/Pan's Labyrinth etc.) and there is the blockbuster side (Mimic, Blade 2...). Hellboy spanned that bridge to an extent, Hellboy 2 however is the perfect crossbreed.
There are stunning visuals, creatures and fantasy galore, alongside humourous quips and BIG BADABOOM action. Still, the time has been taken to make the characters much more substantial and the storyline is relevant and involving.
The vast increase of money spent on this sequel is blatant, but by no means wasted. This is one of the greatest directors around given the opportunity to do what he does best: create a hell of a movie with a big solid heart.
Great entertainment that will satisfy both popcorn movie goers as well as conneissures.

when will i be famousBy ajmac (55 reviews) from Stockport , 10 Oct 2010wThis is even more visually stunning than the first film and does a great job in continuing the tale of hellboy and his compatriots in a story that not only expands the previous films universe but still manages to retain the wit and twisted humour of the original (the tooth fairies being a case in point).
Hellboy 2By santaclaws (90 reviews) from Wales , 19 Sep 2010I saw this when it first came out and thought it was not as good as the original, which I thought was great. Watching it again, I now think it is as great as the original. Wonderful characters, great set-pieces and some brilliant one-liners. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One hell of a filmBy gera70 (30 reviews) from Liverpool , 15 Sep 2010
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideLove this full of action great funny scenes good for the family but my scare the small ones.
Would be a good one to rent out only if you like this type of film.
Loved every minuteBy soxer (33 reviews) from Walsall , 15 Sep 2010I really can't profess to be a fan of super heros / comics movies and when I saw Hellboy on TV a few years ago, I was not aware it was from a comic. Loved that film and enjoyed this sequel even more.
One of the reasons is that is doesn't take itself too seriously and is light on the moralising of many films of this genre.
Perlman is a natural for this part, again the character not taking himself too seriously.
Director Guillermo del Torro has a lot to do with the overall magic of this film. He was involved with the writing and many aspects of production and his wild imagination shows (with a little homage to Pan's Labyrinth.
Overall, you get a big film that delivers action, laughs and a good story with some fantasy and throwaway in there too. Really hope there'' be a third from the same director.

CRASH, BANG, WALOP what a vidioBy slings (2 reviews) from southampton , 20 Aug 2010i can hardly compliment the film on its storyline but you wouldnt exactly rent hellboy 2 looking for somthing to change your perspective on life.
i would definatly rate this film for the action and simply for the fact that its very entertianing.
for me the fight scenes with the smashing punching and all manner of cool stuff was the biggest turn on. but also i was pleasantly supprised by the fact tha my girfreind loved it to. bang on
