This is one of Barbra's best. If you love Babs and you love musicals it hits all the right notes even if Babs is miscast as a middle aged matchmaker. But lets get serious....who the hell would have gone to watch Carol Channing on screen if she had been as fortunate to have landed the screen role at the time. The studio knew what they were doing and cast the biggest musical star of the decade in what you can most certainly see is an expensive musical of its time. The musical numbers, the sets and the choreography are superb in 70mm and it all works! Of course Babs is the main attraction and she most certainly carries it off with an amusing Mae West take off accent delivering one liners and note perfect songs. Walter Matthau is equally good with a dead pan expression and sets surprisingly (in reality they were supposed to have fought on set and did not get along) good chemistry with his leading lady. A young Michael Crawford delivers a good performance and the 'Put on your Sunday Clothes' musical number is one of the highlights of the movie.
