Excellent Horror Classic - Still Holds Up Today
By Debs from Scotland , 19 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Even though this movie was made 18 YEARS AGO it still rates amongst one of the best even against todays standards. Very gory and is capable of making you cringe at times due to the torture scenes - which adds to the creepy scary feel of the movie. Pinhead is excellent! Hadn't thought about this movie in a while , until another visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach were I went inside the PASAJE DE TERROR (were real people dress as horror movie characters and chase you around.) This time I came face to face with Pinhead and was absolutely terrified! Inspired me to watch Hellraiser again and enjoy a real horror movie instead of watching the usual drivel that gets churned out of studios these days. DEFINATELY WORTH A WATCH- Was this review helpful to you?

(64)Get some sleep, what could possibly disturb you...?
By KittyWildmoor (17 reviews) , 07 Oct 2012I watched Hellraiser again recently (for probably the fourth time) and it still scared me so much I had to sleep with the light on in case the Cenobites appeared from the gloom of my bedroom....
Already a horror veteran, I first saw it when it was released in 1987, and it was incredibly disturbing then. I woke up several nights in succession with visions of the Cenobite with his lips cut off chattering his teeth at me!
In his heyday Clive Barker's novels were also a favourite of mine. Both mind-warpingly inventive, and surprisingly humane. Hellraiser is certainly inventive, although not sure it's humanity is quite there. It's about as dark as it gets.- Was this review helpful to you?

hellishly bad
By nurseboy (54 reviews) from oxford , 10 Apr 2012htis was a poor, poor rental. dispite the year in which it was made it is not the effects or make up which make this a waste of your viewing time, in fact those are reasons it gets a single star, but the lack of any substance at all. the gore was well executed but hte story was so lacking in direction, motorvation, and execution i couldnt care less about any of the events in the film a good job really as the are essential threee events.
1 man opens box, goes to 'hell'
2 poor actress lures men to kill ,unconvincingly also with little to no motorvation for such
3 the young girl escapes with her life, barely
the end couldnt come quickly enough, why this has achieved the status it has is compleatly beyond me even as a gore for gores sake the film is dreafull.- Was this review helpful to you?
