Henry V
By a customer from The Midlands, England , 09 Jan 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This would be a good film if you are into your history and Shakespear. Can't say I am an avid fan of either and I found the film rather boring and tedious. The acting is good, and the setting works well, but overall this is not something I would recommend.- Was this review helpful to you?

(31)Olivier in glorious form
By a customer , 24 May 2012For the time, it was an amazing picture. You have to forgive the cartoon-like sets and the gaudy colour. Wasn't it partly propaganda at the end of an exhausting war? There was a mix up between cartoon and reality. The funny accents were as written in the play, but of course Shakespeare's comic version of French wasn't like the metropolitan one we heard here. So, a bit of a mish-mash. The costumes were amazing for the time and the additional historical accuracy of seeing the fearsome weapon that were the English longbowmen was a good touch. You see this now for the performances first and foremost - Laurence Olivier at the height of his powers.- Was this review helpful to you?

Henry V: Men in Tights
By Bendle (6 reviews) from London , 30 Apr 2012Terrible costumes, wobbly sets, hilarious makeup, dodgy Irish and Welsh accents. Yes, the guy who wrote the script had a way with words, I grant you. But like Hitlers Buzz Bombs and V-2 rockets, what must have been shiny, new and explosive back in 1944 now looks hopelessly dated.- Was this review helpful to you?

Blu Ray Disappointing
By Mox (62 reviews) from Chipping Norton , 09 Mar 2011This is a classic version of a Shakespeare play. It starts off in the confines of the O Theatre to give the atmosphere of a play on the 16th century and then launches into a dream like setting. Excellent. I saw this for the first time when I was kid and it impressed me then and still does.
I have this on DVD and was eager to see it in HD on blu-ray, but was disappointed. Not much effort has gone into the blu-ray transcription, large sections seem to still be in SD.- Was this review helpful to you?
