Leelee Sobieski stars in this saccharine high-school romance as a small town girl torn between rich kid Chris Klein and farm boy Josh Hartnett. Sobieski and Klein approach their roles with dewy-eyed earnestness, while Hartnett gives the film its only solid performance. Director Mark Piznarski too often uses pop music to intensify the drama rather than trust his actors with the task. The result is a movie that borrows more from music video than the conventions of straightforward narrative. The characters don't have enough depth to sustain the movie's unnecessary turn toward tragedy in the last act, while the finale lands like a lead balloon.
"...It's an old-fashioned story of young love, enlivened by an attractive cast and settings..."
Time to get the hankies out - a film that tugs! A real Sunday afternoon movie if the weather is bad and you can't get out
Good filler. The actors were good but some of the lines that were deliverd were cringe worthy.
The ending left a lump in my throat.
