Painful. I gotta start reading the the reviews more closely and not waste a DVD allocation. I'm not gonna reveal a spoiler, because the whole concept was spoilt from the beginning. Who gave them the money for this?

  • Nothing works in this film

I agree with Soleil-fleur. I couldn't watch more than 20mn of this film. And strangely enough I felt sick as well. Just constantly uncomfortable with the mean, ungrounded and just plain silly violence (and I liked Funny Games). The characters don't make any sense , the dialogue is annoying, the story falls apart, feels as if you fell asleep and missed chunks which might explain why the character act in this way. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is just a caricature, its border-line slapstick with no intentions of being funny. Just awful!

Kinda interesting but very dark. Joseph Gorden Levit is great in a very unlikeable role. Portman was also great in a more unusual role for her than usual. File this under oddity

  • Great soundtrack, mediocre film - unfulfilled potential

this film contained 2 of my favourite things: Heavy Metal and Natalie Portman. But somehow the result was less than the sum of it's parts. It had all the right ingredients, but it just felt like there was something missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

The characters were well acted, especially the young boy TJ, but the plot felt a little thrown together. Still, it had it's moments and I would check out more from director Spencer Susser, if just out of curiosity.

It pains me to say this because I think the cast are incredible: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, Rainn Wilson....so SO great. I was so excited to see this film.

I don't think I've ever been more sorely disappointed in my life. I felt sick the whole way through this film, that's how bad it is. It's pointless and there's no reason for all of these people to be in the same story. Hesher especially. He's pointless. Simply pointless.

The little boy is great. Heartbreaking. The only real redeeming factor. Had the film simply been him and his dad struggling to deal with their loss and him dealing with other problems (e. g. the bully) then it would have been great. A lot more emotional. I don't understand the point of Hesher as a character. I really don't. And I don't understand how this film was allowed to be made. Awful.
