Film Noire 1945
By Dungbeetle (503 reviews) from London , 04 Sep 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
This was filmed in the Noire style of the 30s which nearly worked. The period detail was excellent and the actors competent but maybe it took itself too seriously. It was based on a true story but I wonder if that is an overused and loose phrase these days. The direction and editing kept it moving so it never flagged. Worth a look if you the film style.- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)THIS IS NO BLACK BOOK THRILLER
By RJN (125 reviews) from KIDDERMINSTER , 10 Dec 2011THIS FILM HAD THE INGREDIENTS TO BE INTERESTING, EXCITING AND DRAMATIC, AND WITH A GOOD MUSIC SCORE MORE ACTION TO KEEP IT THRIVING WITH APPREHENSION. WHAT WE GOT WAS COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE. IT JUST WAS SLOW ANTI CLIMAX. I APPRECIATE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE FORTIES YEAR, BUT IS WAS THE SAME IN THE FOREIGN THRILLER BLACK BOOK, IF YOU HAVE SEE THIS EXCELLENT THRILLER YOU WOULD KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I DO NOT BLAME THE ACTORS ESPECIALLY BILLY ZANE HE IS SO UNDERRATED, BUT THE DIRECTOR AND PRODUCTION TEAM HAVE LET THEM DOWN IN MAKING JUST AN AVERAGE THRILLER. WHAT A SAD WASTE WITH SUCH GOOD INGREDIENTS, PASS THIS ONTO THE FRENCH OR THE DUTCH TO MAKE AND NOTE FILM MAKERS YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN- Was this review helpful to you?

Disappointing watch!
By jonnytash (215 reviews) from Berwick-upon-Tweed , 06 Dec 2011A bit amateurish and a poor storyline. The acting was third rate and overall not one to dash out and buy.- Was this review helpful to you?
