Hex - Season 1

This for me starts out pretty interesting. I can't wait to see how the rest of the story goes. However, it's not for everyone. Sort of an acquired taste really.

It is really good to see a British paranormal drama. Everything always feels more real as they don't have the huge budgets that the Americans have. It is well acted and worth watching.

Pretty disappointing. I love this genre and so am very disappointed the writers haven't really grasped some of the fundamentals of the supernatural..for example. a ghost eating crisps...please! Said ghost then talking on a mobile! Give it a rest! Not written by people who love the genre.

HEX arguably represents a British attempt to create a similar type of production to the iconic US TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Unfortunately, just lifting a supernatural fantasy format and throwing in a few random new elements will not achieve the same result. Buffy and its spin-off show Angel were the result of witty,original and skillful writing, directing, casting and production values. In Buffy, Joss Whedon created an iconic allegory of teen life. Next to Buffy, HEX looks like exactly what it is - a poor man's rip-off with bad scripts and general Amateur Dramatics. British television needs to give up wasting money trying to make good fantasy TV and stick to what it does best. Good modern fantasy is not the same as period drama or even science-fiction. It is a genre that requires a very different set of parameters to write and produce to the top standard and those sensibilities just don't exist in the UK. Better to buy in the real thing from the US.

A little concentration and you have everything you could want for to watch.
