    [Highly rated reviewer]

this is a wonderful adaptation of the story by terry pratchett.

It is Hogswatch which is the equivalent of Christmas on Discworld, and the Hogfather has gone missing, so Death take his place along with albert his trusty servant as an elf, who drinks all the sherry and eats all of the mince pies. while this is happening Death's estranged governess granddaughter Susan, who is trying to lead a normal life attempts to find out what has happened to the hogfather, and the tooth fairy who has also gone missing.

david jason is fantastic as albert. this film is well worth renting out.

This was a great programme, we had missed it as we do not have Sky but it was worth the wait. David Jason was brilliant

  • Bored stiff, very disappointing

I was bored stiff after about 15mins & gave up watching it. The film had a great cast but the content did nothing for me. I found it slow & disjointed. It kept jumping betweem scenes which appeared to have no relevance. This is the first film that I have not watched all the way through.

I was suprised of how innovative and interesting the plot, characters and realism for a child film.

It definitely worth a watch, rent or time. I the style of Harry Potter but slightly darker.

Enjoyed it so much I am going to start reading his books, always saw them but never got around to reading them.

Fantastic film would watch it again.

Don't know how little children would feel about the hogs instead of reindeer though.

  • Uneven pacing, but a faithful recreation

Overall this is an enjoyable, faithful adaptation of the book. It sticks to the major plot points of the book, and generally does a good job with the characters.

The good: The discworld is beautifully imagined here, it clearly had a decent budget. The second part (it is a 2-part tv special) is far stronger than the first.

The bad: The pacing. It is painfully slow at times - particularly part one. There is also a lack of charisma among the main characters, until the story find its feet in the second part.

And a decidedly uneven performance from David Jason aside, this is actually quite good fun. Susan Sto'Hellit is a highlight, as is DEATH.
