    [Highly rated reviewer]

    Fifty's film noir with Adrien

Brody very sensitive performance as a down at

    heel private eye investigating

    the death of Superman actor.

Very slow paced ,though excellent performances by

Affleck and Lane, with a tremendous small role for

Bob Hoskins. The film certainly captures the time with its film studios and movie star mansions scenes, but it is flawed effort

and could have been a classic if the screenplay was

    a lot sronger.

  • Where is the comedy?

Genre - drama/comedy? I don't think so. A sad tale of two men's sad lives. A period Hollywood piece that portrays the flawed personalities & relationships that we have come to expect of this time.

LOVE Adrien Brody , he brings a reality and thoughfullness to all his films. This is very easy watching, based on the true story of George Reeves, aka Superman,I JUST remember seeing films onTV when I was tiny, and know that there had been a bit of scandal surrounding his early death, this film deftly switches between the 'now' and 'then' of the story and I found it a worthwhile watch, him indoors was out -just as well- I don't think he would have been interested enough in the subject to watch this film. A good one for watching alone when in a thoughtful mood.

If mindless action romps turn you off then watch this. Not everyones cup of tea but I enjoyed it very much. A good effort from a first time director. Good, engaging performances all round. Stylish, thought provoking and an ending that leaves you to make up your own mind.

Found this an interesting film, not the usual formulaic hollywood dross. Good effort from Ben Affleck who is sometimes a bit wooden for me. Adrien Brody was fantastic in this too.

HOLLYWOODLAND explores Reeves's life and tragic end from the perspective of Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), a private investigator hired by Reeves's mother shortly after his death. Cutting back and forth between scenes of Reeves's life and Simo's detective work, the film draws parallels between two men kept from appreciating the present by dreams of future grandeur. Ben Affleck returns to form as Reeves, a man whose hindering celebrity status may have reminded the actor of his own: despite breaking onto the scene with an Academy Award for writing GOOD WILL HUNTING in 1997, Affleck's career was at one point overshadowed by a romance as familiar to the public as Superman's cape. With close attention to detail, first-time director Allen Coulter creates two distinct worlds specific to their time, Simo's noir-ish and seedy L.A. forming a bleak contrast to the glamorous, formal Tinseltown Reeves so longed to be embraced by. An accomplished act for a first time director, HOLLYWOODLAND offers viewers a believable look into Hollywood's most glamorous bygone era. While the subject matter of the film was interesting I felt that in lacked any real punch and I found that it was slow
