Released during the Red Scare to reinforce confidence in corporate America, this inversion of everything that Frank Capra held dear was distributed by MGM, but supervised by John K Ford, the head of the General Motors film unit. The scenario couldn't be much more cynically corny, as small-town editor Jeffrey Lynn abandons his paper's anti-capitalist stance (inspired by his recent state election defeat) after his kid sister, Melinda Plowman, is rescued in the nick of time by machinery manufactured by Donald Crisp's conglomerate. However, the picture has been delivered from its deserved obscurity by the appearance of a young Marilyn Monroe.
