Anne Bancroft stars in this made-for-TV film about the Tillerman children, who go off in search of the mother who abandoned them. Instead, they find their grandmother (Bancroft), a stodgy woman who at first resists the children's affections. However, after much coaxing, the grandmother allows the children to stay with her, marking the beginning of a deep relationship. Based on the popular book by Cynthia Voight, HOMECOMING is a superb rendering of its source material, aided immeasurably by its fine cast headed by Ms. Bancroft.

Distinguished actress Anne Bancroft won praise for her portrayal of a crotchety grandmother in this sentimental TV movie which will appeal to young and old alike. When their mother abandons them in a strange city, teenager Kimberlee Peterson and her three younger siblings are forced to begin a long and difficult journey in search of a home. They embark on a 500-mile trek that ultimately leads them to the cantankerous grandmother they never knew. Up-and-coming star Peterson more than holds her own opposite the imposing Bancroft, as do the rest of the brood, who are never allowed to descend into the depths of cute Hollywood child performances.
