After nerdy scientist Rick Moranis accidentally pumps up his son into a 50ft giant, this film is reduced to a one-note romp that almost creaks to a halt. However, until that occurs, there is a well-sustained spirit of infectious enthusiasm, bug-eyed innocence and wild lunacy that harks back to the glory days (the 1950s) of the “creature features”. The central idea of a normally harmless child running amok in the adult world is strong, the special effects have their own power and magic, and Moranis himself is reliably goofy.
