Untaxing & Gentle

What you have to ask yourself is why you want to see this film?
If you are looking for a Jane Austin-esque epic of damp breeches then look elsewhere. If you are happy with a generally sweet film that shows Colin Firth playing Colin Firth and allows his two female leads (and main supporting cast) to carry the film then read on.
The film has some funny moments and is generally quite sweet without ever really taxing the viewer. You can never quite believe the fledgling romance, or see the ex as the wicked Queen (at least once she actually arrives on the scene).
Its never going to win awards but it passes the time in a Sunday afternoon sort of way.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hope Springs
By a customer from Northants , 11 Mar 2010As a rule Colin Firth can do no wrong in my eyes but this film does him no justice. A bit tedious and annoying in places.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hope Springs
By itslikethisluv (6 reviews) from North Yorkshire , 01 Feb 2010Colin Firth and Minnie Driver must have just needed the money, very little humour in the story, no plot, no surprises, a waste of one of my monthly rentals. Would have had more entertainment eating the envelope the disc came in!- Was this review helpful to you?

Worst film ever seen
By a customer from Birmingham , 26 Nov 2009I never wrote reviews ... until I saw this film.
Another movie where Colin Firth plays the role of an englishman caught between two ladies (an brit and an american). Pretty similar to his 'What A Girl Wants', but even less entertaining to watch. Plot is too far fetched (why would he travel half the globe to the middle of nowhere just to heal), acting of all is forced and unnatural. Every single attempt to surprise us has been guessed 30 seconds before it happens ... my wife and I were tempted so many time to stop it, but we did not, we never do, always hopefull than it will get better. Definitely not this time.
Probably the worst film I ever watch... and the worst Colin 'Farce' ever made- Was this review helpful to you?

Last Hope!
By Angiee (100 reviews) from Solihull , 30 Jul 2009Not Colin Firth's best work. Ok as rom coms go, very weak storyline and poor acting make this a disappointing damp squib!!!- Was this review helpful to you?
