Bland offering
By perdita123 (14 reviews) from Arundel , 08 Mar 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
had high hopes for this one, brilliant actors but felt let down by the script, totally bland and beneath their talent also felt ending a disappointment.- Was this review helpful to you?

(82)O.k for an older audience, perhaps not so for 12yr olds
By a customer , 17 Jun 2013I quite enjoyed this movie, I think Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep are both excellent actors, though it did seem a bit strange watching Tommy Lee Jones in this sort of role. Steve Carrell was brilliant though , very well acted. Would I watch it with a 12 year old - NO! Even the thought of sitting through some of the quite explicit dialogue with a 12 year old made me shudder. Apart from that it was an alright movie.- Was this review helpful to you?

Predictable and overplayed
By PHILFROMHOSE (8 reviews) from Melton Mowbray , 10 Jun 2013Having read glowing reviews of this film elsewhere, I was disappointed on several levels : Jones and Streep are undoubtedly great actors, but they overplayed their roles - he was 'too wooden', if that's possible, and she was plainly trying too hard ; the interaction between the main characters was done so predictably as to make the film bland, with little uncertainty or nuancing of their situation. Americans tend to like this lack of shading, but a film of this nature needs more than just obvious and predictable story telling. The soundtrack was obtrusive and irritating, serving only to trivialise the important theme which was being portrayed.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hope versus Experience?
By Mokky (10 reviews) , 07 Jun 2013I'd watch anything with Meryl Streep in it, well, apart from the one about Mrs Thatcher! Hope sprung out nicely with this romcom, but oh gee whiz!!! how could she put up with uber curmudgeonly Tommy Lee Jones all those years???? Steve Carell was terrific as the counsellor, and there were some really funny bits in the film... but she shudda left years ago!- Was this review helpful to you?

Failed to live up to Expectations
By BobandJo (3 reviews) , 05 Jun 2013Disappointing film that did not live up to the hype. Plot line is all a bit 'thin'. Comedy? ......... not really.- Was this review helpful to you?

Don't watch it if you squirm easily!
By a customer , 03 Jun 2013Enjoyed this film. I expect a lot of couples can relate to it. Meryl Streep excellent as usual. Tommy Lee was right for the part. I liked the ending.- Was this review helpful to you?
