Hornblower - Loyalty

The famed Horatio Hornblower series, which follows a man of humble beginnings who rises to maritime leadership and glory during the 18th century Anglo-French wars, now shows a slice of life during a quiet moment in an onging war with the unpredictable Napoleon. Our man Horatio takes advantage of his time off and falls in love, but it's not long before he's called back as the Commander of the Hotspur and he sets sail for France, where the war wages on. This is another great story in a brilliant sequence, filled with action, adventure and romance.

Can't Go Wrong With This Cast!

Hornblower! What more is there to say!

An absolutly sterling cast, brilliant storyline, great locations and the seductive seafaring way of life into the bargain!

Oh yes, and Ioan Gruffudd as the icing on the cake!!!

He really is superb in this epic series as Hornblower. What a coup for the casting team, along with Robert Lindsay as his testy Commander! (I'm afraid that even now I still see the odd flash of Citizen Smith in his performance - his first great charactersation of many!)

This episode sees poor old Horatio realise that honor does not come as standard with all men in His Majesty's Royal Navy.

That women will use a man's honor mercilessly to get him exactly where they want him is obviously unthinkable to this fine, upstanding young gentleman, who only ever sees the good in in the fairer sex rather than the cuning side of their nature.

Bless him - his face really is a picture at the end of this one when he realises that he has been outmanouvered into asking a lowly wench to marry him, and then wonders 'Oh my God, what have I done?'

I can't wait for the next episode to be sent.

My only real quandry in all of this is why we don't see Ioan alot more either on the small or large screne. He is a consumate actor (other than when acting with 102 dalmation puppies - but I blame the script more than the actor on that one!) - perhaps he should change his agent?! In any case, more Ioan is definatly required!!!
