This latest adaptation shows that Dr Seuss' stories work better in animation than live action...

    [Highly rated reviewer]

You don't get a great deal of filmed output from Dr Seuss, we had the superb 2000's Grinch and excellent 2003's Cat in the Hat, but we have had to wait until 2008 for another.... and boy was it worth that wait ! This film literally jumps out of the screen with colour and vibrancy, both in the feature and the content. Horton, a huge elephant, hears a Who on a speck of what I would say is pollen on a flower, and comes to realise, in typical oddly rhymed Seuss fashion, that a person is a person no matter how small. Adult or not, this is one of the most fun filled films I have seen in the last two years, a complete hoot, superb and well worth a watch. Simple, unabashed, superb brilliance. I cannot possibly recommend this highly enough !

Absolutely wonderful kids and big kids movie! My daughter and I loved it. We also loved The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Wonderful stories.

  • Simply the best Dr. Seuss adaptation

This is quite simply one of the best kids movies ever made. Am I overstating this?! Is it really that good?

    No and Yes.

Jim Carrey isn't always everyone's cup o tea, in fact I've personally gone through a phase of enjoying and hating his work, not in that order though.

In Horton he is absolutely perfect, the ideal cartoonish actor to play a cartoon elephant.

The supporting cast are all great, especially the delightfully horrible Carol Burnett and the boob-ish Mayor Steve Carell.

As with all Dr Seuss' stories, Horton is layered with important messages while keeping the kids entertained. In fact I've grown to appreciate Dr Seuss' genius far more via the medium of film, in the UK we didn't get the same exposure to his books, we had Enid Blyton (when will someone make a Magic Faraway Tree movie??!!).

In short the movie is a blend of wit, humour, social commentary and I think it's one of the best kids movies ever made. Can't fault it. Neither can my kids.

Another fantastic story from the genius that is Dr Seuss. The animation is fab and the voices are great. This is funny and touching and I love it. Fun for all the family and most importantly it is easy to follow!

  • Dr Seuss' Story is entertaining

A very entertaining adaptation of the classic Horton Hears a Who, good visuals mixed with great performances from the leads and supporting cast. although the moral message is shouted from the roof top, it still does well as kids movie. This said I think it's pitched at the 5-8 year olds category as the kids I watched it with were not particularly amused, though did enjoy the animation.

This is good, I like the story and Horton's character is really good, but it's not something I'd watch over and over or even less buy. Fine to watch once or twice. My 3 year old wasn't bothered either way
