You don't get a great deal of filmed output from Dr Seuss, we had the superb 2000's Grinch and excellent 2003's Cat in the Hat, but we have had to wait until 2008 for another.... and boy was it worth that wait ! This film literally jumps out of the screen with colour and vibrancy, both in the feature and the content. Horton, a huge elephant, hears a Who on a speck of what I would say is pollen on a flower, and comes to realise, in typical oddly rhymed Seuss fashion, that a person is a person no matter how small. Adult or not, this is one of the most fun filled films I have seen in the last two years, a complete hoot, superb and well worth a watch. Simple, unabashed, superb brilliance. I cannot possibly recommend this highly enough !
From the team who bought us 'Ice Age' comes this, the best big budget adaptation of the
good Doctor to date. The animation, the drawings, the voices, the depiction of the two contrasting worlds, are all excellant.Better still is the the spirit and the tone throughout,
which takes me back to my first encounters with Seuss's books as a child. Near perfect
entertainment for young and old, don't miss it.
I watched this with my 6 & 7 year old children. They seemed to like it but they didn't rave about it. I found it quite strange and felt a bit lost off with it.
Wow - am going to rent this one out again - brilliant film - whole family really really enjoyed this one - kids still going on about it - animations brilliant and story line Dr Seuss - what more can I say?
Hm, Halloween. Usually I try to make an effort and watch something relevant (something my sister inspired me to do) unfortunately I didn't really have anything to watch. What better time for Lynne and Nomi to invade and watching a cute animated film!
I was interested to see it in the cinema, but I suspect uni got in the way and I had since forgotten about it. Jim Carrey, yay alright, we know he is good at comedy I guess. Steve Carell? Meh.
But Dr Seuss? Can't be bad! And it wasn't. The animation was very pretty as things looked solid as they slid and crashed around. The premise was endearing too; a civilization so small that even just a bit of ground frost can mean metres of snow for them... all the while their protector is a huge clumsy Elephant!
The use of rhyme wasn't heavy handed, in fact it was nicely subtle; playing up at key moments and reminded you of what you were watching. The musical number at the end though was a bit of a surprise... but then I've grasped the fact that most animated films require at least one by law.
I really liked the characters, the 3D modeling work was very smooth. They loved their feathers and particle physics!
Above average for sure! Not sure if it will make my top ten of the year but it will certainly be one of my notables, even if this is granted purely for the character of Katie who... is indescribable in words! But I love characters like that... virtually mute and rarely on screen, but so funny when she is. Even if she's a little creepy too.

I THINK IT IS TOTALLY GREAT. I LOVED THE PART WHERE HORTON GOT CHASED BY MISS KANGEROO AND AN ANGRY MOB OF ANIMALS. I ALSO LOVED THE PART WHERE MISTER MAYOR GOT A STAPLE IN HIS HEAD, THIS WAS SO FUNNY. I LOVED THE FILM BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT WAS FUNNY.
Jim Carrey just being Jim Carrey again but the kids were delighted with it!
