It's good to see a screen version of a Sherlock Holmes story that doesn't pander to the image of Deerstalker and Pipe, a legacy of when Basil Rathbone played Holmes in the 1930s/40s, and certainly not something that was imagined by Conan Doyle. Great acting, superb scenery, fantastic atmosphere - I heartily recommend this version of a great mystery/horror story....
Very good version of an old classic. The Basil Rathbone version was fabulous, but this film has a different take,a decent modern interpretation. I was not sure how Richard Roxburghe would work as Holmes, but he was entirely believable and dear old Ian Hart, who seems to turn up in everything, was marvellous as Watson - Holme's dogsbody - who proves to be entirely honourable with a warm heart. Richard E Grant is always good value and was suitably quirky and creepy here. Finally the whole setting, the moor, the house and of course the hound were chillingly atmospheric and spooky, you wouldn't catch me out on the moor after bedtime!!
Having not been very interested in Sherlock Holmes i did enjoy this somewhat, the acting is good especially by doctor watson, i was watching this late at night and i was a little bit scared lol......

not very good. someone at the beeb has tried to be a bit too clever, and has added a few of conan-doyle's vices to holmes. so we get opium smoking and seances. i think richard e grant would have made a much better holmes than stapleton, and the bloke who places watson is useless. he manages to convey absolutely no emotion throughout the whole film. my last gripe is the hound. the terror of the book is the hound with its firery eyes. why oh why, in this modern age of special effects can they not do a convincing looking hound. this one looks like a mangy stray, not a ghostly fiend. rubbish

This one is not at all up to the mark.
One must see Hound Of Baskervilles from series where Jeremy brut acted as Sherock.
This one from BBC is very frustrating.
Enjoyed this but it would have been better if it had been viewed in two stages as I think the BBC origanally intended.
One of the better versions of Sherlock Holmes around, ever. Richard Roxburgh fabulous, Ian Hart reprises his role as Dr Watson. A slightly dodgy CGI hound and Bergerac hiding under a full set of whiskers merely add to the fun.
