Once again, curmudgeonly Dr. Geoffrey House has to diagnose various improbable illnesses, usually by taking ethically indefensible risks, and ably helped out by his implausibly good-looking team of diagnosticians-cum-researchers-cum-surgeons.
Having said all that, you know what you get with House MD, the plots are pretty much always the same, but what lifts it away from being samey early-afternoon TV fare is Hugh Laurie's performance as House. It's worth watching for that alone. It's strange to think that this is the same actor who played the Prince Regent in Blackadder 3, and Bertie Wooster in Jeeves and Wooster.
Anyway, for dumb, fairly brainless entertainment, you can't beat the soap-opera aspects of House. Highly recommended, probably not for anyone who might get annoyed by the ludicrous unrealism of the hospital working environment.
I know I shouldn't, I really, really don't want to..but I just love House, and I'm nursing quite the little crush for Hugh Laurie. So soapy you'd feel squeaky clean if it wasn't for that dirty feeling you get from giving in to such obvious manipulation. The acting is excellent for the most part, especially our own dear Hugh, the stories are fairly absorbing, and despite the formulaic approach to each episode it's extremely satisfying. If you hate CSI, because those CSIers are just so unbearably worthy, then this is probably the show for you! Give it a go, but be warned, it's highly addictive!
Every DVD we get we have to watch all episodes at once and quickly sennd back to get the next installment. We were initially put off by the House's false american voice but we love it now - every episode is great
Brillaint series and a great first episode.

My husband and I enjoy House MD so much. We get hours of entertainment. Hugh Laurie is just one of Britains finest. Having seen all seasons I can never get tired of House. He is so like my husband!!! Just brilliant.
Physical, emotional and personal pain as entertainment. Dr. House M.D. is the central force is this tv drama. His free-thinking intellect allows him to prosper in an environment confined by social and professional strictures. The friction between what should be done and what has never been contemplated, is the basis for this wonderful American tv drama.
Characters are developed and not simply cardboard cut-outs placed in different plot situations. The dialogue often crackles with imagination. I purchased the USA dvd version of Season One not just for the double-sided discs but for the subtitles in English which allow you to follow the medical jargon and, indeed, the Americanisms in the show much easier. And the exchange rate is favourable at the moment.
Hugh Laurie's performance as Dr House is impeccable. From ex-wife to motorbike from drug addict to monster truck enthusiast his character is never dull and never stereotypical. His life is in the undiscovered corners of our mind; discovered because he is part of a team. The series always tries to look and sound fascinating. The highly glossed graphics of a bone breaking or a clot being removed are actual real, inside the body events which we witness full screen.
Questioning perspectives within confines and succeeding through those perspectives is what House is all about; another type of pain. Brilliant. British TV is nowhere near this.
As always, House is witty, sarcastic and ill mannered but the best docr you could find. The cases are amazing and the sense of humour of the characters is wonderful.
House is absolutely fantastic! Hugh Laurie is a revelation as Dr Gregory House M.D. He can deliver a sarcastic and often hilarious Dr House but also deliver a dark, black and brooding side. It's the dark in contrast with the smoothness of the show that makes this series compelling to watch. Hugh Laurie plays a character that says what we all want to say but it's our conscience and compassionate nature which means we don't - House doesn't have such a side! I can't wait for the next series and the next and the next!
Somehow Channel 5 forgot to repeat this series. Even though they'd managed to do a stripped week of series 1 and 2 daytime which was a joy. House needs to be enjoyed 4 episodes at a time. its disconcerting watching this at the same time as series 4 being transmitted. And interestingly, with series 4 you definitely miss the interaction with his three 'bitches'.
Awesome. Love it. Never stop making it.
