House Of Cards

After her husband's deadly accident on an archeological site in Mexico leaves Ruth Matthews (Kathleen Turner) a widow, she has to face an additional problem: Her 6-year-old daughter refuses to speak. Instead, little Sally communicates in intense shrieks when something bothers her and spends her time building an elaboration tower out of playing cards in the middle of her room. Psychiatrist Jake Beerlander (Tommy Lee Jones) believes that Sally is suffering from autism, but Ruth refuses to accept his diagnosis--until she's finally forced to admit that something very serious is wrong...and she'd better do something before it's too late.

When Kathleen Turner's archaeologist husband falls to his death from a Mayan pyramid in Mexico, she packs up and returns to the States where her six-year-old daughter begins to behave very strangely. Child psychologist Tommy Lee Jones is brought in to help. At first, you think the little girl (convincingly played by Asha Menina) is going to take us down a path into Stephen King territory — maybe the Mayans have put a hex on her — but, sadly, it leads only to the usual clichéd drama. It is sad to see Jones and Turner, whose career seems to be in free fall, wasting their time in this movie, which went generally unsung in the USA and unreleased in cinemas here.

    A lovely film

I have to say that this film is wonderful to watch, its touching and keeps you interested throughout. I have to admit though the only reason I rented it was because I remembered the name (although nothing about the film) from when I was younger and wanted to know why I had, its because its a film that touches your heart and I dont think anybody could dislike it!
