Brilliant, but very upsetting.By PhoebeV from Essex, England , 29 Aug 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This is an excellent film, very well acted, directed and written.
I think that the best way to watch this film is by thinking of it in terms of theatrical tragedy. Only drama can explore these deep emotions and not leave you feeling devastated. The problem here, is that the film is not a play and is so very believable.
However, in the dvd extras one of the actors commented that true tragedy only works if you are 100% immersed in the characters and the story. Therein lies the glory of this fantastic film.
Only please be warned, unless you are a cold emotional fish, this story will hit you hard!! Enjoy.

Potentially excellentBy a customer from Witney , 22 Nov 2009House of Sand and Fog had all the ingredients of being a fabulous film: great acting, conflicted agenda, human need amidst injustice. We wanted to like it.
So, why were we left feeling disappointed?
It lacked subtety and resorted to tear-jerk emotionality. Events were predictable and rushed to the point of losing credibility. The film needed space for the viewer to discover responses and resulting feelings. Instead, at each turn we were heavily sign-posted what rushed big emotion to feel next.
This film, I fear, was formulaic masquerading as deep.
Brilliant Acting,Story,DirectionBy a customer from Motherwell , 10 Nov 2009I remember seeing the trailer for this a long time ago and it came across usual film of neighbours feuding (e.g. Pacific Heights). I did not expect a film where you can feel for all the characters and chop and change on who is the person in the wrong. I was pulled into the film the more I watched not knowing what would happen next. If you like a thriller more story and less action then I would definitely recommend.
Very slowBy a customer from London England , 21 Oct 2009The story was very slow moving and although I enjoyed the film all the action seemed to happen in the last 5 minutes of the film. Ben Kingsley was as always very good though.
BrilliantBy moonpig (3 reviews) from London , 13 Oct 2009If you want an emotive, well acted, thought provoking film, see this and brace yourself!
DireBy a customer from hastings , 11 Oct 2009Jennifer Connelly beautiful. Ben Kingsley amazing. House Of Sand And Fog dire and dismal. All that glitters is not gold. Save your time.
