Spirited remake of Mystery of the Wax Museum (qv); as a piece of screen narrative it leaves much to be desired, but the sudden shocks are well managed, perhaps because this is the first Grade-A 3-D film, packed with gimmicks irrelevant to the story
In spite of another review claiming this to be the original movie, it clearly isn't.
For on this disc (in the special features section )is included a much older version, 'Mystery of the Wax Museum' from 1933.
It is this earlier film that is the more impressive I think.
It stars Fay Wray in a smallish part, the acting is slightly better and I feel that the makeup of the museum owning monster is better and more believable (bearing in mind the age of both these movies) than that of the 1953 film.
Amazingly for it's age, it is also in colour and the sound is not bad either considering.
The 1953 Vincent Price version is not a bad film by any means, but I found I enjoyed earlier 1933 version much more.
Glad I rented it.
great classic horror film can't wait for the new one
