Really interesting and atmospheric horror...By cgregan (7 reviews) from Hove , 08 Oct 2009
[Highly rated reviewer]This is a film that made me question the existence of user comments. I added it to my list on seeing that it was the same director as Martyrs, but then considered taking it off again when I saw how generally bad the reviews here and elsewhere were. I'm really glad I didn't.
The problem with House of Voices is that it asks the audience to do a bit of the work. The story and the meaning behind it are not immediately obvious, there is an element of the film that is open to interpretation. It requires a bit of patience and an audience willing to think about what they're watching. For some people, the majority it seems, this clearly drains any potential enjoyment from the film. For me it's not a problem at all, it's what makes it an excellent film.
Aside from that there is a lot more to recommend here. The film looks beautiful, the performances are fantastic and there are some very effective scares generated with the help of a suitably creepy atmosphere. It is also truly unpredictable at times - something often missing from the modern horror film.
Overall this is a bold, well-produced and interesting film that should be seen by anyone bored of films made to a formula.

BafflingBy Uptowngirl (4 reviews) from Crowborough , 26 Jan 2007The film started out well but it never really went beyond that and the ending was just baffling... I just did not get this film at all!!
Meh?By Ouch (218 reviews) from London , 11 Jan 2007Ok so I will say that I ignored all the reviews of this film saying that it was bad, becasue I still like to form my own opinions.... The film WAS very slow to begin with, and very creepy, I only counted 2 jumpy bits and that was it throughout the whole film. The fact that there is really only 3 characters in the film made it kind of uninteresting.
The film leads you up to something the whole time, giving you bits of information which is the only thing that kept me interested to be honest!
But then..............MEH? The end is just so bizzare that it kind of makes me regret watching it. It's not explained, and I've got my own idea of what it means but we're not allowed to put spoilers soo....
Just don't bother really peeps!
Yawn!By a customer from Dartford, Kent , 12 Dec 2006Not a very good horror at all. Nothing really happens until the last 30 minutes and even then its not that scary. It makes you jump a few times thats about it. The only sad thing in this film is the new born baby dying. What a rubbish story line.
RubbishBy a customer from London , 17 Nov 2006This film made no sense at all. After I watched it I thought - WHAT? It just did not make sense.
